Key Responsibilities
The core responsibilities of an HSE Officer include:
• Developing and implementing comprehensive health, safety, and environmental policies
in accordance with legal and corporate guidelines.
• Conducting risk assessments to identify potential hazards and developing preventative
strategies.
• Preparing method of conducting scope of work.
• Organizing safety training for employees to ensure awareness and understanding of
safety and environmental practices and legislation.
• Monitoring compliance with policies, performing site inspections, and preparing detailed
reports on findings.
• Leading emergency response initiatives and conducting investigations after incidents to
establish causes and preventive measures.
• Advising on a range of specialist areas, e.g., fire regulations, hazardous substances,
noise, occupational diseases, and waste management.
• Maintaining current knowledge of legislation and regulatory requirements related to
health, safety, and environmental matters that impact the organization.
• Collaborating with internal leadership and external regulatory bodies to maintain
compliance standards.
Key Tasks and Duties.
The day-to-day activities of an HSE officer in the Oil & Gas industry may involve:
• Implementing health and safety plans that comply with company and client policies and
legislated standards.
• Overseeing environmental performance and adherence to legal environmental standards.
• Handling safety/regulatory audits both internally and externally.
• Coordinating with HR departments to ensure physical examinations and medical
clearances are completed per the company's policies.
• Developing and maintaining documentation related to HSE initiatives, such as inspection
forms and training modules.
• Liaising with Engineering and Operations teams to assess environmental impact and
integrate preventative measures for health and safety into project planning.
• Managing and leading a team of safety professionals or environmental specialists.
• Preparing and updating emergency response procedures and accident reports.
Education and Certification Requirements.
To qualify for the position of HSE officer in the Oil & Gas industry, candidates need:
• A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Safety Management, or a related field.
• Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional and NEBOSH IGC
• Strong understanding of the legal health and safety guidelines relevant to the industry.
• Five years of experience in a HSE role, ideally within Oil & Gas field. PDO, Oxy or OQ
Qualified officer prefer.
• Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
• Proficient use of HSE management software and tools.
