JOB PURPOSE
The MIG Welder is responsible for performing high-quality MIG welding to fabricate, assemble, and repair metal structures and components according to project specifications and industry standards. This role ensures strong, precise, and defect-free welds, supports project schedules, maintains welding equipment, and adheres to safety and quality standards, contributing directly to the efficiency and success of construction or fabrication projects.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Read and interpret welding blueprints, drawings, and technical instructions.
Set up MIG welding equipment, tools, and materials before starting work.
Perform MIG welding on different metals (steel, aluminum, stainless steel) as per specifications.
Inspect and test welds to ensure compliance with codes and project standards.
Maintain welding equipment, consumables, and tools in safe working condition.
Follow HSE (Health, Safety, Environmental) guidelines while performing welding operations.
Perform grinding, cutting, or finishing of welds to meet surface and dimensional standards.
Collaborate with fitters, fabricators, and supervisors to complete assemblies efficiently.
Record welding activities, inspection results, and submit reports to supervisors.
Participate in skill upgrades and training sessions to improve welding techniques.
QUALIFICATION
Diploma or equivalent in MIG Welding.
MIG welding certification (e.g., AWS, ASME, or equivalent) required.
Additional certifications in other welding processes (TIG, Stick, Flux-core) are an advantage."
EXPERIENCE
2–5 years proven experience as a MIG welder in construction, fabrication, or industrial projects.
Experience working with different materials (carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum).
Familiarity with welding codes, standards, and testing procedures."
KEY COMPETENCIES
Proficiency in MIG welding and related fabrication techniques.
Strong knowledge of welding symbols, blueprints, and technical specifications.
Skilled in equipment setup, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
Attention to detail and commitment to quality work.
Strong safety awareness and compliance with PPE usage.
Good physical stamina and ability to work in different positions/environments.
Teamwork and effective communication with supervisors and colleagues.
Problem-solving skills for welding challenges and defects.
