Must know how to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints and welding symbols.
Should have thorough understanding of safety procedures and protocols. Certificates in Health and Safety is an added advantage.
Should have the physical stamina to lift heavy objects, work in tight spaces, and stand for long periods.
Should have good communication skills.
Duties and Responsibilities :
Set up welding equipment, including welding machines, torches / guns, gas cylinders and other necessary tools.
Prepare workpieces by cleaning, cutting and fitting metal components according to specifications.
Select appropriate welding techniques based on the type of material , thickness and desired welding quality.
Control welding parameters and monitor welding process and make adjustments as needed.
Interpret technical drawings, blueprints and welding symbols to understand weld joint configurations, dimensions and welding requirements.
Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents, injuries and damage to equipment.
Handle and store welding gases and flammable materials safely.
Inspect welded joints visually and using non-destructive testing methods.
Perform routine maintenance tasks on welding equipment, such as replacing consumable parts, cleaning torches / guns, and calibrating machines.
Stay updated on advancements in welding technology, materials and techniques through training programs, seminars, and industry publications.
Communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers and other team members to co-ordinate work activities and meet production schedules.
