Job Description:
The Business Development Manager in a consulting business is responsible for identifying and securing new consulting opportunities, managing client relationships, and supporting the firm's overall growth strategy. The BDM will collaborate with senior leadership, marketing, and delivery teams to expand the firm's client base, build long-term partnerships, and ensure the successful delivery of consulting services that align with client objectives.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Lead Generation & New Business Acquisition:
Research and identify potential clients and business opportunities in target markets.
Proactively reach out to prospective clients through cold calling, networking, and attending industry events.
Qualify leads based on strategic alignment and potential business value.
Client Relationship Development & Management:
Build and nurture strong, long-term relationships with existing and potential clients.
Understand client business challenges and objectives to position consulting services effectively.
Serve as the main point of contact for clients throughout the business development process.
Consulting Service Promotion & Proposal Development:
Create compelling proposals, RFP (Request for Proposal) responses, and presentations tailored to client needs.
Articulate the value proposition of the firm's services to potential clients.
Work closely with consultants and subject matter experts to develop customized solutions that meet client requirements.
Sales Strategy & Target Achievement:
Develop and implement business development strategies to meet sales targets and contribute to overall company growth.
Set, track, and meet personal and team sales targets for the acquisition of new consulting projects.
Monitor and manage the sales pipeline, ensuring consistent follow-up and closure of business opportunities.
Market Research & Industry Analysis:

Conduct market research to identify industry trends, competitor offerings, and new areas for growth.
Stay informed about developments in the consulting industry, including regulatory changes and emerging needs in the market.
Provide insights into industry best practices and evolving client demands.
Proposal & Contract Negotiation:
Lead negotiations for consulting agreements, ensuring mutually beneficial terms for both the client and the firm.
Draft and manage contracts, ensuring they align with the firm’s capabilities and service offerings.
Work closely with legal and finance teams to ensure all contractual obligations are met.
Collaboration with Consulting Teams:
Collaborate with internal consulting teams to understand service offerings, capabilities, and how they align with client needs.
Ensure a smooth transition from business development to project delivery, maintaining client satisfaction.
Facilitate communication between clients and consultants to ensure expectations are aligned and services are delivered effectively.
Client Retention & Upselling:
Focus on long-term relationships, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction and repeat business.
Identify opportunities for upselling additional consulting services or solutions to existing clients.
Work with senior consultants to ensure ongoing client engagement and satisfaction post-delivery.
Branding & Marketing Collaboration:
Collaborate with the marketing team to develop and execute campaigns that enhance brand visibility and attract new clients.
Assist in developing marketing materials such as case studies, brochures, and thought leadership content to support business development efforts.
Represent the firm at conferences, webinars, and industry events to raise awareness of services.
Performance Reporting & KPIs:
Regularly track and report on key business development metrics, including revenue generation, lead conversion, and client engagement.
Provide feedback and insights to senior management on sales trends, challenges, and opportunities.
Analyze performance against set targets and refine strategies as needed.
Skills and Qualifications:
Proven experience in business development, sales, or a similar role in a consulting, professional services, or B2B environment.
Strong understanding of the consulting industry and its competitive landscape.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate with senior stakeholders.
Relationship-building skills with the ability to create and maintain strong client relationships.
Strong problem-solving and strategic thinking abilities, with the capacity to understand client challenges and propose effective solutions.
