Job Description

A Cable Jointer specializes in installing, connecting, and maintaining underground or overhead power cables used in electrical transmission and distribution systems.

Key Responsibilities

1. Cable Installation & Joining:

Prepare, splice, and join electrical cables (e.g., high-voltage, low-voltage, and fiber optic cables).

Install cables in trenches, ducts, or overhead systems.

Fit connectors, terminations, and joints using specialized tools.


2. Testing & Troubleshooting:

Perform electrical tests to ensure proper functionality and safety of cable joints.

Diagnose and repair faults in underground and overhead cable systems.


3. Maintenance:

Inspect cables and joints regularly to identify potential wear, damage, or faults.

Perform preventive maintenance to avoid electrical disruptions.


4. Safety & Compliance:

Follow safety protocols and comply with national and local electrical regulations.

Use protective gear and adhere to safe work practices, especially when working with high-voltage systems.



5. Site Preparation:

Excavate and prepare trenches for underground cable installations.

Backfill trenches after completing cable installations, ensuring the site is safe and secure.


6. Collaboration:

Work alongside engineers, electricians, and other technical staff to complete projects.

Provide guidance to apprentices or junior staff when required.


7. Documentation:

Record completed installations, repairs, and tests for reporting and future reference.


Skills & Qualifications

Strong knowledge of electrical systems and cable types.

Proficiency in using tools like crimping tools, cable strippers, and jointing kits.

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.

Problem-solving and analytical skills for troubleshooting issues.

Physical fitness and ability to work in challenging environments (e.g., confined spaces, outdoors).


Educational Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.

Vocational training or apprenticeship in electrical work or cable jointing.

Having EWA License.
